In order to continue to rescue new animals, we do place animals into well qualified homes.
Our policies are very strict and are carried out with the welfare of the animal first and foremost.
Every animal that comes through our gates has already experienced some level of trauma in their lives
and many have experienced severe neglect or abuse. We make them a promise that they are now forever safe.
Animals are only placed if the new home meets or exceeds what is offered at the sanctuary/rescue/foster
home. To be considered for a placement of one of our animals, you must own your home or be in a long
term rental/lease situation, be settled into a permanent home and lifestyle that can accommodate the
animal for its lifetime, have a large/well fenced area for the pigs to graze and “be pigs” in, provide
the same level of medical care offered at the sanctuary.
For their safety, we do not place pigs into
homes where they are left unattended with dogs or are pastured with equines or goats. Pigs are ONLY
adopted in pairs or into a home with one or more pigs already in residence. This is done for the
health and emotional welfare of our pigs. We believe that they need other pigs to be truly happy
and always honor their family ties or long term friendships. Over the years, we have witnessed pigs
taken away from family and friends who have never again found that level of companionship that is so
critical to their happiness..
To assure proper follow up and retrieval of the animal should the placement not work out, we do require
that all placements be within a day’s drive of the sanctuary. We do not ship pigs under any circumstances.
The procedure:
- An application ( online/link) must be filled out. It can be filled out electronically, mailed or telephoned in.
- A home visit must be made by a qualified evaluator ( online/linked)
- References ( including vet ) ( online/linked) checked
- Vet must be verified that treats pigs
- Proof of zoning must be given
- New guardians must pick animal up at sanctuary/rescue/foster home and meet the animal.
(The sanctuary/foster/rescue may approve the placement only after watching the interaction between animal and would be guardian.)
- A donation is requested to cover the medical costs associated with the rescue of the animal.
Medical records and vet bills will be provided. All pigs are spayed/neutered/ vaccinated/ dewormed prior to
placements. The neuter of a male pig usually costs between one hundred to one hundred fifty dollars and the
spay of a female pig is between one hundred fifty and three hundred dollars.
Our custom made feed is available for purchase at that time and harnesses are sometimes available at that time as well.
If you are one of the people who appreciates the safeguards that we have in place to assure
the lifelong safety and welfare of our animals, we welcome your application and the chance to make your acquaintance.
