Alpha Phi Omega, from the University of Virginia, will descend
upon Gallastar with 80 able bodied volunteers, 100 combo fence panels, plus
many gallons of paint, for a work day to assist us in a huge project to
enhance the lives of the animals that we share our lives with and mean so much
to the children that we serve.
These young men and women will paint the hundreds of feet of board fencing that surround our pastures and attach combo panels to enhance our biosecurity, create acres of additional grazing for the pigs, and keep would be predators out of the animal areas. They are also going to build a porch for some of the animals to eat under in inclement weather, cart off tons of downed trees, paint the new 12' x 24' run in shed and haul gravel and dirt to create good flooring under the shed. This is a project that would not be possible without the man/womanpower and materials provided by this outstanding group. Our organization has been fortunate enough to have been chosen as the recipient of this generosity twice before and it is amazing what these folks can do. Not only do they supply the workforce but they raise all funding necessary for the project as well. If you are fortunate enough to have a University with an APO service fraternity nearby, contact them and see if you or a nearby sanctuary might be considered for one of their service projects. These kids rock!! VAPP Home | Contact Us | © 2007 Virginia Alliance for Potbellied Pigs. All rights reserved. |
